In 1899, Victoria Park opened in Royal Leamington Spa in Warwickshire to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Subsequently, this provided a recreation space for the growing town which hosted circuses, galas, flower shows and military parades, throughout the 19th Century.

During the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Victoria Park will play host to the Lawn Bowls and Para Lawn Bowls events. At this time, up to 5,000 fans will watch the action per day across the five bowling greens. The venue hosts the annual Bowls England National Championships, attended by 30,000 people.

Moreover, the park held the Women’s World Championships in 1996 and 2004.  Away from Bowls, the 2007 European Race-Walking Cup was staged at the park, which also boasts 10 tennis courts, a skate park, a paddling pool, and a play area.

As Official Overlay Supporter of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, GL events UK is proud to be installing supporting infrastructure in this venue. This includes exhibition walling, grandstand seating, containment, trackway, fencing, tribunes, rigging, carpets, cabin showers, office cabins, site lighting, toilets, temporary structures, portable toilets and scaffolding.

As with many Birmingham 2022 venues, there will be a number of activities for spectators to partake in, including opportunities to get up close with The Games’ Official Mascot, Perry the Bull.

In total, GL events UK will be providing overlay infrastructure at 12 venues for the Games this summer. Stayed tuned for more updates on this wide-reaching delivery, and find out how our social value programme is benefitting local communities in the region!
