GL events UK is Official Overlay Supporter to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. As part of their delivery, GL events is helping to transform Birmingham 2022’s flagship venue, Alexander Stadium. This location will host the spectacles of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as Athletics and Para Athletics competition during the Games.
As shown in these latest progress photos, overlay infrastructure is really beginning to take shape, with temporary grandstands set to expand capacity at both the North and South of the stadium.
Along with the provision of over 14,000 additional seats, GL events is providing media tribunes, extra lighting towers and giant video board towers, which will even be used to suspend cable cameras to bring television viewers closer to the action during Games-time!
The overlay being provided also extends to areas surrounding the stadium, including the Games Family Hospitality Lounge, containment pieces to house various utilities; broadcast cabling; power; and water; and a vehicle search area for security.
There’s still lots to do at this site alone, but it’s great to see the Project Team making such good progress!
