GL events UK is Official Overlay Supporter to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. As part of its delivery, the event infrastructure giant has a committed to rolling-out a social value programme with initiatives that align with the Birmingham 2022. As part of this pledge, GL events UK has partnered with several not-for-profit organisations, with the aim of delivering significant social benefit to the region; both in the lead up to and beyond the Games.

One such partner is Jericho Foundation social enterprise, The ReUsers. Based adjacent to its sister organisation and fellow social enterprise, The Wood Shack, The ReUsers is a charity department store in Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham, that rescues, restores and recycles second hand items.

Passionately exuding the ethos that ‘second hand can be first choice,’ the items they re-sell are often of very high quality. The value proposition of used goods at affordable prices, enables The ReUsers to prevent approximately 250 tonnes of waste entering landfill every year.

In something of a circular economy, money raised through charity shop sales is then reinvested back into Jericho Foundation, which continues to support vulnerable individuals and groups within the community, by providing them with apprenticeship programmes in affiliated organisations, such as The ReUsers.

The ReUsers is a charity shop, but we go further than that, by providing opportunities that break down barriers to employment for our beneficiaries.

Committed to the belief that there is something for everyone, The ReUsers is split into different departments for an uncomplicated shopping experience. As a result, customers can choose to browse for antiques, electricals, bicycles, home and garden, clothing, furniture, and sports. Taking care to ensure the quality of items, The ReUsers make sure all items are washed, cleaned and tested before sale.

A testament to moving with the modern times, The ReUsers also has an eBay shop, where customers are able to browse and purchase items from the comfort of their own home. However, “there’s no substitute for seeing items in the flesh,” according to Manager, Rich Craythorn.
