As Official Overlay Supporter to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, GL events UK is committed to delivering an extensive social value programme aimed at leaving a legacy beyond Birmingham 2022.

As part of its social value activity, GL events UK is partnered with the Canal & River Trust, which is a charity organisation responsible for the upkeep of over 2,000 miles of canals and rivers across England and Wales. One of the charity’s core missions is to enhance local waterways and their surrounding environments, to improve the wellbeing of neighbouring communities.

In May, GL events UK was thrilled to continue its volunteer programme, as personnel returned to Cambrian Wharf to assist with painting of the Farmer’s Lock Flight and general weeding and maintenance of the canalside. Armed with scrapers, paint brushes and gardening tools, the team worked hard to refresh this vibrant and bustling area of the city.

It's a privilege for GL events to continue supporting the Canal & River Trust in their mission to improve local waterways.

Steven Leek, Marketing Manager at GL events UK, commented: “It’s a privilege for GL events to be supporting the Canal & River Trust in their mission to improve the canal system across the West Midlands. The key work they undertake is playing a transformative role in shaping the health of local ecosystems – and enhancing the wellbeing of their surrounding communities – many of which access these waterways on a daily basis.”

GL events UK plans to embark on its next volunteer day with Canal & River Trust in mid-June, where the activity will be a waterborne litter collection!
